38. Celebrations & Star Wars

Sunday 4th August – Aaron’s birthday

Still reeling from the most amazing night on Friday, we returned to the Contemporary resort, this time for breakfast for Aaron’s 30th birthday.

We then spent a few hours in Magic Kingdom with Aaron and friends watching all the entertainment and meeting characters. The Dapper Dans sang Happy Birthday to him on Main Street which was ADORABLE. Matt and I went to see Jasmine & Aladdin (the film is special to us); they asked to come to our wedding and promised to bring a golden camel for a gift!

We also got some photos to commemorate our engagement while we were in my favourite park…

It was a lovely day but it was ridiculously hot and sticky so we were very tired by the afternoon. I hope Aaron had a great birthday; we enjoyed celebrating with him!

Monday 5th August – Universal

We started off in Universal Studios today, did lots more rides then wandered around Diagon Alley. We got ice cream from Florean & Fortescue’s then got the Hogwarts Express over to Islands of Adventure for even more rides!

On the way out we stopped off at Big Fire on City Walk for their s’mores sharer dessert… would highly recommend this place! We ended the day with one of our favourite activities… mini golf!

Tuesday 6th August – Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

Today was very exciting… I was able to attend the Cast Member preview of the new land in Hollywood Studios, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, and I was able to take Matt with me! The land doesn’t open to the public for a few weeks yet so we were very lucky to be able to experience the land with no crowds.

I haven’t seen any of the Star Wars films (I know, I know… I’m going to change that soon!!!) so it was a bit lost on me, though I was still amazed at the attention to detail that Disney does so well. It is incredible. Matt is a fan though, so he was loving life. I’m so glad he got to experience it. The Cast Members were also amazing, very in character and delivering such an authentic, immersive experience. They kept greeting us with “bright suns!” and I didn’t know what to say back to them…

We did the ride, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, three times with pretty much no wait and had lunch in the Docking Bay quick service. We also went for a drink in Oga’s Cantina. The Jabba Juice is delicious! We had a great time exploring the new land and will probably never see it that quiet ever again!

That evening, we had a meal at the Rose & Crown (where else?!) with some friends to celebrate our engagement. It was a lovely meal and our server/ friend did us a signed menu which was such a cute gesture.

Wednesday 7th August – Cinema day

It was a very rainy day today so we didn’t do much. We had brunch at IHOP then went to Disney Springs to go to the cinema. We watched Aladdin, then as soon as that had finished, we went straight back in to see Toy Story 4.

For dinner, we went to Morimoto Asia; their sushi is amazing!

Friday 9th August – Jonas Brothers!

We checked out of our hotel as we were staying on Disney property for the rest of Matt’s stay. Our room at All Star Sports was ready which was a bonus, so we dropped off our bags and played Winter Summerland mini golf, had some lunch and went to the pool.

In the evening, we went to the Jonas Brothers Happiness Begins tour at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando. My 15-year-old self was so excited but I’m not sure Matt was! I think (hope) he enjoyed it, though… I had such a sore throat afterwards from all the screaming and singing! I was living my best life and loved every second.

Sunday 11th August – Volcano Bay

We spent most of the day in Universal and Islands of Adventure doing all the rides we hadn’t done yet and some of our favourites, as it was our last day here.

In the afternoon, we got the bus over to Volcano Bay, the water park. When we first arrived, there was a storm passing overhead and everything was closed so we had lunch and waited it out. I’m glad we did, because once everything had reopened most people had left. We were some of the only people left and we got all of the big slides done so quickly because there was no wait for anything.  Matt was even brave/ mad enough to do the drop slide in the volcano; you stand on a trap door and it moves out from underneath you… NO THANKS.

We stayed until the park closed at 9pm. The temperature was lovely and the pool looked so pretty at nighttime.

We finished the day by going back to City Walk and having dinner at Toothsome’s Chocolate Emporium, another restaurant on my bucket list. It was amazing and we had their signature milkshakes for dessert. Yummmmm!
