36. Matt’s Back!

Friday 26th July – He’s finally here!

After a morning of packing and getting some chores done, it was time to meet Matt at the airport. I can’t believe our nearly 8 months of waiting are finally over and I’m SO excited for him to spend four whole weeks here!

We checked in to our hotel then had a long-awaited date night in Disney Springs. We had dinner at my favourite place, D-Luxe Burger (purely for their amazing vegan burger). As we were eating, we got a Magic Moment from a lovely Cast Member- a free shake! Sitting by the water in the evening heat with Matt here, I felt so happy and content.

Saturday 27th July – Where else would we go on the first day?!

You guessed it… the Magic Kingdom! I won’t go through what we did in lots of detail as I’ve spoken about the rides and shows before, and if you’re familiar with Walt Disney World you’ll know what is there, but I’ll include lots of photos.

We also spent some time adventuring around Tom Sawyer’s island in Frontierland. There are lots of caves and fun bridges, etc, to explore which was a good time, apart from when Matt tried to scare me. We ate at Casey’s Corner then finished the day with one of our favourites, Happily Ever After.

Sunday 28th July – Typhoon Lagoon

It was Matt’s first visit to a Disney water park and we had such a great day. We spent lots of time in the wave pool, going round the lazy river and riding slides; we got some hilarious footage on Matt’s Go Pro, especially when we did the aqua coaster and he lost his sunglasses, only to find them 5 seconds later floating down the tunnel next to us! Lucky boy…

Monday 29th July – Universal

When Matt came to visit at Christmas, we didn’t have time to do the Islands of Adventure and Universal parks, so I was very excited to show him round this time. He loves roller coasters as much as I do… and Harry Potter! We picked up Chloe and Zoe from housing and spent a lovely morning with them (and being scared silly in the queue for Reign of Kong!) in Islands of Adventure.

As we were looking around Hogsmeade (one of the Harry Potter lands), we passed by the entrance to the new ride to find a big crowd forming. As luck would have it, it was just about to open and we got on it within 25 minutes! Very different to last time, when I queued for 7 hours!!!

We got the Hogwarts Express over to Universal for more rides and had dinner in Hard Rock Café… my favourite place to end an adrenaline-filled day.

Tuesday 30th July – Toledo

We had a lazy morning today after a busy first few days. We then went to Epcot to meet some friends from work as it was their last day and had some drinks in the Rose & Crown pub. I can’t believe friends are starting to leave, it’s very strange and sad.

For dinner, Jason had made a reservation at Toledo in the brand new Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs resort. A few of us went and our server happened to be the husband of one of our managers at work! He was so helpful talking us through the menu and answering our many questions.

I had a bruschetta-style appetizer, a vegan seafood platter and chocolate avocado mousse for dessert and it was all so delicious (though pretty pricey).

While we were having dinner we could see the fireworks from Magic Kingdom in the distance and I actually legged it across the room to see the Fantasmic! fireworks from the other side (yes, I was that person). The views from the Tower are amazing; I don’t know if it’s one of the highest points in Walt Disney World but you can see loads!

The Tower itself is also stunning and everything is so new and pristine…

Wednesday 31st July – Swimming with dolphins

Today we were up very early to spend the day at Discovery Cove. We ate breakfast, swam with dolphins and snorkelled around reefs with fish and rays. The food is all-inclusive as well and is freshly prepared and delicious. It’s a brilliant day and I would thoroughly recommend for something a bit different to the parks.

There was a storm in the afternoon so we had to get out of the water (throw back to that time I nearly got struck by lightning on my 18th birthday in this exact same place). We waited it out for a little while, had a nap then went back to the hotel.

Thursday 1st August- SeaWorld

Matt had also never been to SeaWorld before so we spent the day here. I don’t really enjoy the shows so we mostly did the rides… say what you want about SeaWorld but their rides are great! My favourite is Mako; it doesn’t look like much but it is insane!

Watch out for my next post… it’s a special one!
