9. The Most Magical Christmas

Monday 24th December – Beach Club

I hadn’t planned anything for Christmas Eve as we were checking out of the first hotel and checking in to Disney’s Beach Club resort until Boxing Day.

We couldn’t check in until the afternoon so Matt and I stopped at Disney Springs on the way. I really enjoyed showing Matt around; we went round the Christmas Tree Trail and had lunch in the Rainforest Café. It was so hot and it felt so strange walking around in shorts and t-shirts on Christmas Eve. We even made a stop at Walmart as Matt forgot his swim shorts!

It was then time to check in to the Beach Club. I wanted Christmas to be extra special so I booked a Club Level room, which was worth the extra money! We were escorted up to the Club Level reception area and received welcome drinks while we waited for the Bell Boy to bring up our luggage. I have never stayed anywhere so fancy before so it was quite overwhelming. The lift even had a separate scanner so that if you are a guest at Club Level, you scan your Magic Band to get up there. We also later discovered that we got a turn-down service and were left chocolates on the bed. So fancy. The Cast Members kept calling Matt and I “Mr and Mrs Golding” as well which was funny. A lot of my friends were also staying in the Beach Club so it was nice that we were all in the same place… we even had an adjoining room to Elin, Roma and Liv which was hilarious.

Once we’d our bags had been brought up to the room, Matt and I explored the Beach Club resort. We looked at the gingerbread carousel in the lobby, the beautiful Christmas decorations and headed outside to the beach, when none other than Mickey Mouse himself walked past us! There were lots of things going on; a fire pit and Cast Members giving out things to toast marshmallows and make s’mores, a station to make reindeer food, a cookie decorating table and a station to make your own hot chocolate. There were also different games set up on the beach and it was ‘snowing’! We met Zoe and Liv and had some s’mores then Matt and I played a ‘throwing bean bags into a wooden hole’ game and watched the sun set from the beach. It was amazing.

We headed back upstairs (the lift thing never got old) and explored the Club Level Lounge. This was where the food and drink was put out for guests to help themselves; breakfast, snacks and things during the day, then hot food and desserts and alcohol in the evening. You could also request as many alcoholic beverages as you liked during the day. The Cast Members were so willing to get you anything you needed… a few of us met in the Lounge that evening and unfortunately drank them out of their supply of Moscato!

Matt and I took some food back to our room and ate on our balcony taking in the lovely view while we waited for people to finish work. It certainly didn’t feel like Christmas  was tomorrow!

As the Beach Club is behind Epcot, a few of us went back downstairs to watch the fireworks from the beach. We got a really good view and it was lovely to spend Christmas Eve with lots of my Disney family (and Matt of course). Elin, Roma and I then exchanged gifts and I opened my Christmas cards from home, then laid out all our presents on the other bed ready for the morning.

Tuesday 25th December – Christmas Day

As soon as we woke up we Facetimed my Mum’s side of the family. My Auntie, Uncle and cousins always come back to the UK from Australia for Christmas and we spend Christmas Day together. It’s chaos and there are so many of us but I love it. I felt sad that I wasn’t with them but I’m so lucky to be able to spend Christmas in Disney World! We all opened our presents on Facetime so it almost felt like I was really there with them.

After some breakfast we went down to meet Aaron and exchange gifts with him as he wasn’t staying at the Beach Club. Most people had to go to work, so Matt and I Facetimed my Dad and Matt’s family and spent some time by the pool. There was a lazy river and I laughed a lot watching Matt trying to get into his rubber ring… I keep saying it but it REALLY didn’t feel like Christmas!!!

We had some snacks upstairs in the Lounge then went for a Christmas walk around the Boardwalk, which is the area behind Epcot next to Yacht and Beach Club with restaurants, bars, a bakery and shops. We also had a look round the Yacht Club, which is next door to Beach Club. After that we came back for more food and wine (it was Christmas after all!) then chilled in our room watching Christmas films.

When Elin, Roma and Liv got back from work we played some games in their room. It’s not Christmas without games! It was such a lovely but strange day.

Wednesday 26th December – Boxing Day

We had a late checkout so after some breakfast Matt and I went back down to the pool for a couple of hours. We had great fun being children on the slide which was actually huge! I was a bit apprehensive at first…

Once we had packed and checked out, we had a few hours before we could check into the new hotel. We went back to my apartment to leave some things and we ended up having a nap for a couple of hours!

We went to Cici’s for dinner, which is an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet (my favourite food!) then snuggled up in bed to watch Avatar, which I’d never seen before.

Thursday 27th December – Epcot

We got up early for a day in Epcot. I wanted to do Test Track first as I knew it would be busy but the queue was already so long when we arrived, so we started with Mission:Space instead. I was feeling brave (it’s extremely intense and they have barf bags on the ride as so many people throw up…). We did a few other rides, ending with Spaceship Earth (the ride inside the Epcot ball). I’m not joking, it broke down every couple of minutes! We ended up being on the ride for over an hour and we were late for our lunch reservation at the Rose and Crown.

I’d booked the Candlelight Processional dining package, which is a 3-course meal and the show in the evening. The narrator for today was Jodi Benson, the voice of The Little Mermaid, MY FAVE. Lunch was delicious and it was lovely to eat in and show Matt the place where I work! I showed him round the World Showcase then made our way over to watch the show. It was so good and I nearly cried because of how beautiful the music was. It was a retelling of the Christmas story with lots of traditional carols performed by a Cast Member choir and an orchestra.

We then did some more rides, met Baymax, did the Cookie Stroll as part of the Festival of the Holidays then ended the day by watching IllumiNations from the Rose and Crown.

I’m not sure what I expected but Matt said that Epcot is his favourite so far. I’d call that a successful day!

Friday 28th December – Chill Day

Matt and I needed to do laundry so we had brunch in IHOP while we waited. We spent the rest of the day by the pool in the hotel as we were so tired!

Saturday 29th December – Celebration

I had to go back to work today so Matt did some uni work at the hotel. He picked me up in the evening and we went to Celebration on the way back to the hotel, which is a really pretty village near Disney. The houses are beautiful and so many people had gone all out on their Christmas lights so we parked up and walked around part of the neighbourhood looking at all the decorations. We then drove to the main part of Celebration, where they had a big tree up in the high street and it was ‘snowing’ some more! We got a huge pizza slice and some amazing cookie dough and sat by the lake to eat.

Sunday 30th December – Fireworks Fail

I had another shift at work but when Matt picked me up afterwards I wanted to see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Polynesian resort beach. They were doing a ‘dress run’ of their New Year’s Eve fireworks and because I would be working I thought it would be nice to see them tonight from afar.

However, because it was so busy we couldn’t find a parking space in time and ended up driving round for ages. Matt then just pulled up in an empty disabled bay and I was really upset because I thought we’d missed them. Next thing I know, the fireworks start going off right over the parking lot! I’m not sure where we were in relation to Magic Kingdom but they were so close and we had a perfect view from the car. I thought my great idea had failed but it actually ended up being pretty perfect in the end.

Well done if you made it all the way to the end, it was a busy week! Thanks for reading 🙂
