5. Fantasmic!

Monday 26th November – Becoming a Disney Trainer

I had an early start today as we had a class… we became Disney Trainers! This means that when the next new groups arrive next year, we will be able to train them in the different roles when they start at the Rose and Crown. It was a strange day as we had the class for a couple of hours then went to work for another three hours.

We finished at 2.30pm so Elin, Chloe, Roma and I spent the rest of the day in Hollywood Studios. We did a fair few rides, including the Slinky Dog Dash in Toy Story Land (although it was pouring with rain so I didn’t see a whole lot!). The others left because it was raining but I couldn’t go to Hollywood Studios without seeing my absolute favourite, Fantasmic!, of course, so I stayed and watched it on my own. It was the emptiest I’ve ever seen it due to the weather and although it rained really hard a few times, I still cried!

I also found out today that I had been picked to go on the backstage tour of Fantasmic! on Thursday organised by work and I’M SO EXCITED. I was really upset because I missed the initial sign-up and I wanted to do this tour more than anything. Have I mentioned it my favourite?? Someone couldn’t go so they did another draw and my name was picked! How lucky am I?! This was partly why I wanted to stay out in the rain to see it tonight.

Tuesday 27th & Wednesday 28th November

I never thought I’d say this but the weather took a turn and was absolutely freezing! Everyone was wrapped up in their coats and gloves… not quite what I signed up for when I knew I was coming to live in the Sunshine State! The managers were even giving us handwarmers. It obviously wasn’t as cold as the UK but I’ve been acclimatised to 30 degree + heat for a couple of months! Here is me in my Hogwarts-esque work coat…

It was Alastair’s birthday on the Wednesday so a few of us met up after work to watch the fireworks then have dinner at Miller’s Ale House. There were loads of us so we embarrassed him by singing Happy Birthday as loud as we could. I couldn’t stay long as I had to be up early for the Fantasmic! tour.

Thursday 29th November – Fantasmic! Tour & Christmas Party

I had a very early start but for once I didn’t mind and I was so excited! We got to the Hollywood Studios Cast entrance for 8am and made our way through the park to the entrance of Fantasmic! ready for the tour at 9am. I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to be a part of it. It was SO interesting and I learned loads. We got to see the backstage area, touch all the costumes in the show and went on all the different levels of the mountain. A highlight for me was going on the boat and standing right at the top where Mickey himself steers! We weren’t allowed to take any photos of course and I won’t divulge any of the secrets but it was the best day!!!

Chloe and I went to Wal-Mart on the way home then I collected a couple of exciting parcels that were waiting for me; one from Matt and one was our Magic Bands for when we have our Christmas Staycay. We have booked a Club Level room at Disney’s Beach Club from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and I can’t wait!

The exciting day continued as a few of us were going back to Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in the evening. We did lots of the same things as last time (the Christmas show, fireworks and parade) but I met a few more characters tonight, including Marry Poppins and Rapunzel! Rapunzel is one of my favourites so I was very excited to meet her and we had the funniest character meet. I made Emma cry with laughter at my screaming on Space Mountain and ended the night by running back to the castle to see in her birthday with the last show of the night.

It’s been an amazing day!

Friday 30th November – Emma’s Birthday

Less than 12 hours later and we were back in Magic Kingdom for Emma’s birthday! We had breakfast reservations at the Crystal Palace, which is a character breakfast buffet with Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore. I have some lovely memories of coming here with my family years ago (also… Mickey waffles) so I was really looking forward to it. It was a great way to start a keeno day in the Kingdom and I think she liked her presents!

As we were leaving, another Cast Member (I think he was a leader as he was in his own clothes) got talking to us and asked what we were up to next. Emma’s favourite ride is Splash Mountain so he took us there and let us into the Fastpass queue… magic moment! Unfortunately, the ride broke down after the big drop and we had to be evacuated off the ride, which has never happened to me before. Emma was beside herself with excitement (and soaked, as she’d gone at the front).

I also got to see the Festival of Fantasy parade for the first time. I wasn’t blown away by it but apparently there were a few floats missing for some reason… it was still good though!

We did some more rides and then I left to get an early night. I hadn’t had much sleep over the last couple of nights so it was definitely needed. More importantly, I think Emma had a great birthday!
